Last week’s regular lunch meeting was more than just a gathering of friends and colleagues; it was a celebration of incredible heart and dedication. The Rotary Club of Hamilton was proud to officially recognize Kathy Dudley, Bethany Spaeth, and Jack Whalen as our newest Paul Harris Fellows.
Amidst our usual lunchtime camaraderie, we took a moment to pause and honor these three individuals who truly embody the Rotary motto: Service Above Self.
The Legacy of Paul Harris
For those who may be new to the world of Rotary, the Paul Harris Fellow recognition is one of the most prestigious honors in our organization. It is named after Paul Harris, a Chicago attorney who founded Rotary International in 1905.
Harris’s vision was simple but revolutionary: to create a circle of professionals who could use their diverse skills to better their communities and foster world peace. Today, that vision has grown into a global network of 1.4 million neighbors and problem-solvers.
What Does the Award Represent?
Becoming a Paul Harris Fellow isn’t just a "thank you" for years of membership. It represents a significant contribution to The Rotary Foundation, the engine that powers our humanitarian work across the globe. When you see someone wearing the gold Paul Harris pin, you are looking at someone who has directly supported:
The Eradication of Polio: We are "this close" to ending this disease forever.
Clean Water Initiatives: Bringing sustainable wells and sanitation to those in need.
Education and Literacy: Empowering the next generation through local and global grants.
Peacebuilding: Training future leaders to resolve conflict and build stronger societies.
Congratulations to Our Honorees
Kathy Dudley, Bethany Spaeth, and Jack Whalen have each shown that leadership isn't just about what you do in the office—it's about what you give back to the community. Whether through their professional expertise, their volunteer hours, or their financial support of the Foundation’s mission, they have left an indelible mark on our club.
By naming them Paul Harris Fellows, the Rotary Club of Hamilton reaffirms our commitment to the local and global projects that make the world a better, kinder place.
Please join us in congratulating Kathy, Bethany, and Jack the next time you see them!
