Monday Member Spotlight: Arnita Gunn

Meet Arnita Gunn, Development Manager at the Fitton Center for Creative Arts, also known as Spoon in her family. With a love for Mexican food and a passion for crafting, Arnita has always marched to the beat of her own drum. Her home "office" may be filled with supplies and shoes, but she rarely works there. Instead, she has found her calling as part of the Fitton Center team, where she brings her infectious smile and positive energy every day. If Arnita were to write a book about her career so far, it would be titled "Career...WHERE?" as she has worked hard to find her place and finally feels at home at the Fitton Center. Get to know this unique and dynamic individual who has found her niche in the world of arts and culture.

FUN FACTS

  1. Lots of kids carry blankets or stuffed animals as their object of comfort, but my object was a spoon. So my nickname in my family is Spoon. I think I have some family members who think that's my real name.

  2. I'm not from Hamilton, but part of the reason I choose to make it home was the proximity to many international airports.

  3. I have an "office" in my house, but I NEVER work there...It is full of my crafts from candle making and jewelry making supplies and my shoe collection.

FUN QUESTIONS

Choose one song to play every time you walk into a room. What song and why? "Don't Worry Be Happy" by Bobby McFerrin

You wrote a book about your career so far. What would the title and why? It would be called "Career...WHERE?" Why? Because I've worked long and hard to find a space where I felt comfortable, now the Fitton Center team gets to look at me smile at them everyday.

If you weren’t in your current line of work, what career would you pursue?

I would be working with pregnant and parenting girls and young women.

What’s your #1 bucket list item? I don't really have a bucket list, those are hard to keep up with. I am excited about Italy though.

IN DA CLUB

Why did you join Rotary? For me it's all about community, connections and change. I love being in a room full of individuals who are looking for ways to better their community. And I truly believe we are stronger together!

What is your favorite part of being a Rotarian?
